O.G., the original OG Kush, is the indica-leaning hybrid that set the Bakersfield and wider California standard for loud flower. The paper trail is thin — bag seed out of Florida in the early 1990s, shared into Los Angeles around 1996 — but the plant is not. Chemdawg supplies the fuel and the punch, Hindu Kush (sometimes called Pakistani Kush) supplies the earth and the body, and Lemon Thai is the usual explanation for the bright citrus top. Crack a jar at Mary Jane’s and it still smells like the blueprint: lemon, pine, rubber-gas, and hash. The smoke starts in the head and finishes in the couch.

People still argue what the letters stand for. Original Gangster, Ocean Grown, just Original — none of that changes the flower. What y’all are smoking when the label says O.G. is the Kush that left Florida as mystery bag seed and got stabilized on the West Coast by the mid-1990s, with Matt “Bubba” Berger and Josh D the names most often attached to that move. Exact parents were never written down. The version that holds up is Chemdawg crossed into a Hindu Kush line, with Lemon Thai mixed in somewhere to explain the sour citrus. That is the heritage. Everything sharp and chemical comes from the Chem side. Everything heavy and hashy comes from the mountain indica.

Type sits as an indica-dominant hybrid, usually called about 55/45 to 60/40. It is not a pure couch plant on the first hit, and it is not a daytime sativa either. Modern batches at Mary Jane’s and across Bakersfield commonly test in the 19–26% THC range, with some runs listed 18–27%. CBD stays under 1%. Potency is real without needing a cartoon number on the bag.

Buds come dense and chunky, olive to forest green, burnt-orange pistils, and a thick frost that looks wet under the light. Break one and the room fills up. Smell is the whole point of this cut: sharp lemon rind, fresh pine, petrol, skunk, black pepper, and a damp-earth hash underneath. It is loud in a parking-lot way, not a candy way. No pastry, no fruit candy — just gas and woods.

Taste tracks the jar. First pull is sour lemon and pine. Mid-bowl turns woody and earthy. The exhale is fuel, pepper, and a little rubber that sits on the tongue. Smooth if the cure is right, harsh if it was rushed. A clean O.G. coats the mouth and lingers.

Smoking experience comes in two waves. Onset is quick, a few minutes, with a bright euphoric lift, loose talk, and a clear happy head. That is the Lemon Thai and the Chem talking. Then the body shows up. Shoulders drop, legs get heavy, appetite kicks in, and the night starts leaning toward the couch. Higher doses slide into full relaxation and sleep. Lower doses can stay social for a while. Dry mouth and dry eyes are common. It is an evening flower for most people, the kind you light when the day is already done.

That is O.G. Not a new dessert cross. The old gas standard, still holding up in Bakersfield jars and still the reason half the menu at Mary Jane’s has Kush somewhere in the family tree.
